Sore throat can effectively spoil the mood, weakens and tires you. It is best to react at the first signs of an emerging infection and nip it in the bud.
Pharmacies offer hundreds of specific products to relieve sore throat. Unfortunately many of them contain sugar, which causes the multiplication of bacteria and is harmful to teeth. Even if we have a proven remedy for sore throat, sometimes we can’t make it to the store. What home remedies can come to the rescue in difficult situations?
Very often when we begin to have a sore throat we do not think about reaching for drinks. This is a big mistake. Proper hydration and moisturizing the throat are very important in the fight against infection. The best solution is to drink small sips of water at room temperature and cooled herbal tea or water with ginger. Not recommended are very hot drinks, icy, and sweet (especially carbonated) and alcohol. Opinions are also divided on tea with honey and lemon. Black tea has drying properties, and honey can additionally irritate and sensitize. However, if someone is not harmed by this method, why not use it.
Another method, which has its supporters and opponents, are homemade solutions for rinsing the throat:
Clove for throat problems
In the fight against sore and scratchy throat, hoarseness and cold, cloves are helpful. This aromatic dried herb can be used in several ways: in tea, as a gargle or as a lozenge. Cloves have anti-inflammatory and antiviral effects. They can help fight various infections as well as sore throats.
Soothing a sore throat will also bring relief from a sore throat – if you have it at home, you can use it. The only problem may turn out to be an excess of sugar in the finished product. If you want to avoid it, you can prepare homemade kisiel from potato flour. To give it a taste, just use home-made juice such as blackcurrant or raspberry.
However, an even better solution is to cook flaxseed jelly. To prepare it you will need: a glass of water, 2 tablespoons of flaxseed and 5 minutes to boil. After this time the flaxseed should disintegrate and a thick, glutinous mass will be formed. We can enrich its taste with any additives.
Kisiel has a protective effect on the mucous membrane of the throat, is cheap, tasty and rich in vitamins (especially the flaxseed version). If we enrich it with fruits rich in vitamin C, we get a medicinal and tasty dessert.
Onion syrup is an immunity booster known for generations. Infection starting with a sore throat means that the body is weakened and it is worth supporting it with natural vitamin bombs. Onion syrup is one of them. 2-3 onions chop into feathers and put into a jar, and then sprinkle 5 heaping tablespoons of sugar or honey. Put the lid on the jar and leave it in a warm place overnight. Later we store the syrup in the refrigerator. We eat 2-3 teaspoons 3 times a day.
Home-made syrup of onions can be additionally enriched with a few cloves of garlic, chopped ginger, lemon or the previously mentioned cloves.
